
Schmid Leads Men's Golf into Second Place at Louisville Cardinals Invitational

Schmid matched his 66 from Friday to move into third place.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Matthias Schmid fired a 5-under-par 66 to lead the University of Louisville men's golf team into second place after two rounds of the Louisville Cardinals Invitational on Saturday.
After shooting 16-under-par on Friday afternoon, the Cardinals responded with a 3-under-par 281 to hold a two-shot lead over third place South Florida heading into Sunday's final round.
Duke has maintained its lead after two days, carding a 7-under 277 to hold a 15-shot lead over the Cardinals. Mississippi State is in fourth place at 9-under-par and Wake Forest is fifth at 6-under par.
Schmid, who is 10-under-par after two rounds, equaled his round from Friday at the UofL Golf Club. He recorded five birdies and an eagle on No. 17 to sit in third place, just five shots behind Duke's Alex Smalley, who leads the way at 15-under par.
Playing as an individual, Devin Morley shot 2-under-par 69 on Friday and matched Schmid's 5-under 66 to jump into a tie for fifth place. The Galway, Ireland, native registered six birdies, four coming on the front nine to post the best round of his career.
Simon Zach and Jiri Zuska were two of the top performers entering Saturday. Zach fired a 4-over 75, while Zuska added a 2-over 73 to place in a tie for 13th place overall.
Trevor Johnson and John Murphy each carded rounds of even-par 71 to sit in 37th and 57th place, respectively, after Saturday's round.
The Cardinals, who will be paired with Duke, South Florida, and Wake Forest, will tee off on Sunday at 9:54 a.m.
