Cardinals Sweep IUPUI To Win Cardinal Classic

Bennett, Rivera, Sauer Named All-Tournament
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville Volleyball swept the IUPUI Jaguars in three sets to remain undefeated in the Cardinal Classic tournament and on the 2018 season. The Cardinals took the sets 25-14, 25-12, and 25-23 Saturday evening at Cardinal Arena.
All-Cardinal Classic Tournament Team honoree Jasmine Bennett registered eight kills and a .533 kill percentage, while fellow All-Cardinal Classic Team honoree Wilma Rivera posted a 1.00 kill and hit percentage on the night. All-Cardinal Classic MVP Molly Sauer recorded 19 digs to solidify the Cardinals' defense in holding the Jaguars to a .104 hitting percentage.
"It's good to get tested there against IUPUI, but I thought we battled pretty well. To win nine sets in a row is tough, so it was pretty good," said head coach Dani Busboom-Kelly. "We are very confident in the service line, and I think that will always keep you in any match no matter what the score is."
The Cardinals jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the first set, winning quick rallies that forced IUPUI to take a timeout. The Cardinals maintained a steady lead through the entire set, never once giving up the lead. Louisville kept the Jaguars quiet, holding them to a .061 hitting percentage. Amanda Green started strong for the Cardinals, registering four kills.
The Cardinals fell behind early in the second set, falling behind by three points. Louisville then took the next seven straight points to take the lead for the first time in the second set. The Cardinals then put their foot on the gas, never letting the Jaguars get closer than within three points for the remainder of the set. After two sets, Megan Sloan led the Cards with eight kills, while Molly Sauer continued her strong defensive showing, totaling 12 digs.
Louisville once again trailed to start the third set, falling behind by four. The Cardinals were forced to call a timeout, down 14-10. After struggling to find a rhythm and being down by seven, the Cardinals fought back to tie the set at 22 points. Louisville finished completed their comeback on a kill by Amanda Green and a block by Piper Roe. Green finished with 11 kills for the Cardinals.
