BEL AIR, Md. - University of Louisville head coach Scott Teeter will spend the summer as head coach of the UWLX's Boston Storm, and will be joined by graduating senior Emily Howell.
In the season opener, the Storm used a strong first half to get past the Long Island Sound for a 10-8 victory in what was a rematch of the 2017 UWLX championship.
Leading the way for the Storm, veteran Kayla Treanor tallied five points on four goals and an assist. Treanor contributed four points in the first half, helping the Storm build a 6-1 advantage at the break.Â
Howell provided an assist in her UWLXÂ debut.
Teeter said after the game it was energizing to open up the year in front of the crowd of fans that turned out at the Live.Love.Lax event.
"It's a fantastic experience, and seeing the girls getting to showcase their talents in front of a crowd like this, it's remarkable," Teeter said. "It couldn't be a better atmosphere."
Teeter said that he's trying to provide structure and parameters for his Storm players while letting them harness their natural talents.
"You're seeing some behind the back passes and shots in there, but more importantly they spread the ball around because they're all talented athletes and they all want the ball. … My job is to make sure we're spreading it around and getting some quality looks, but letting them have freedom with the ball."
The UWLX picks back up on July 7 when the Baltimore Ride take on the Boston Storm and the Philadelphia Force face the Long Island Sound in Basking Ridge, N.J. at the Top Flight lacrosse tournament. Games are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. ET, respectively.
