Track and Field Set For ACC Outdoor Championships

The Cardinals will compete May 10-12 at the University of Miami
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville Men's and Women's track and field teams will head to Coral Gables, Fla. to compete at the 2018 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Miami's Cobb Stadium.Â

Competition begins Thursday, May 10 with the start of the men's decathlon at 11:00 a.m. The men's hammer throw will be the first field event at 3:00 p.m. and running events are set to kick off at 6:00 p.m. with the women's 400 meter hurdle prelims.Â

To kick off day two, the men's decathlon will wrap up competition starting at 11:00 a.m. and the men's long jump will lead off the field events at 3:00 p.m. The women's 100 meter hurdle prelims will be the first event on the track at 5:45 p.m.Â

The final day of competition starts at noon Saturday with the men's javelin. The runners will hit the track at 5:00 p.m. starting with the women's 4x100 meter final.Â

To conclude the meet the women's 4x400 meter relay will run at 8:30 p.m. followed by the men at 8:40 p.m.Â

Among the 15 teams in the ACC are three U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) nationally ranked teams. This includes No. 10 Florida State on the men's side as well as No. 21 Virginia Tech and No. 22 Miami on the women's side.Â

Seven of the Cardinal women are ranked in the top-50 in their events this outdoor season. Freshmen Makenli Forrest and Dorcas Wasike  are each ranked in two events and rank in the top-15 of one event. Forrest is ranked 11th in the hammer throw and 32nd in the discus while Wasike is ranked 12th in the 10,000 meter run and 42nd in the 5,000 meter run. Carsen Cassell sits at 32nd to join the ranks in the women's hammer throw. Alexis Gibbons is ranked 41st in the long jump while Holly Hankenson stands at 42nd in the heptathlon.Â

The Louisville men also have seven athletes ranked in the top-50. Damar Robinson leads the group ranking 10th in high jump. Joe Delgado follows, ranked 11th in the decathlon. Marcus Jegede and John Kolb round out the athletes in the top-25, ranking 17th in the long jump and 24th in the discus respectively. Devin Valentine is 32nd in the triple jump while Oliver Newport is 34th in the long jump. Jerin Allen is ranked 50th in the high jump.Â

The Cardinals finished the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational last time out with nine wins including five from the distance crew.Â

Albert Kosegi picked up two wins in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and 1,500 meter run while teammate Emmanuel Cheboson snagged another first place finish in the 5,000 meter run.Â

Dorcas Wasike and Caroline Gosser rounded out the distance pack with wins in the 1,500 meter and 5,000 meter run.Â

Freshman Brooke Raglin snagged a win in the women's 100 meter dash while Martice Moore won the men's 400 meter hurdles.Â

Rounding out the pack were wins from John Kolb in the men's discus and the men's 4x400 meter relay team of Moore, Josh Hall, Teague Peck, and Carlos Coleman.Â

The Louisville women had a program best third place finish at the 2018 Indoor Track and Field Championships while the men finished seventh. The Cards look to build on last year's sixth place and men's fifth place finishes at the 2017 Outdoor Championships.Â

Senior Jerin Allen returns to the championship after winning the men's high jump with a leap of 2.15m/7' ½" at the 2017 Outdoor ACC Championship at Georgia Tech.Â
