Cardinals finish spring with team GPA of 3.48
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Besides their strong showing at the ACC Championships, the University of Louisville rowing team has received a number of team and individual accolades during the spring season. From the water to the classroom, the Cardinals have been honored for outstanding performances during the year.
Despite their arduous training and competition schedule, the Cards finished the spring semester with a team GPA of 3.48. 33 crew members earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher, with 11 posting a 4.0 in the semester. Seniors Mackenzie Garland, Rachael Schmetzer, Sophie Schulz and Allison Zimmermann graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors from the College of Education and Human Development. Schmetzer and fellow seniors Kirsti Harrison and Callie McGowan graduated with Cum Laude honors from the same school. The award is given to student-athletes who intend to pursue graduate degrees and have performed with distinction in the classroom, in competition and in the community. Harrison was also given the Central Cardinal Club Leadership Award at the Louies ceremony in April, as well as the Sherrill E. Brakmeier Award for outstanding senior students in the Health and Sports Science Department.

Senior Kim Streetz was awarded the Departmental Alumni Award by the Speed School of Engineering Alumni Association for outstanding graduate work in bioengineering.
In the summer, junior Samantha Stoll will attend the 2018 NCAA Career in Sports Forum, an exclusive event that gathers student-athletes from around the nation to learn about future careers in sports and opportunity in intercollegiate athletics.

Schulz also earned the UofL Varsity Oarswoman of the Year Award at the team banquet. At the event, senior Elizabeth Patrick received the Cardinal Pride Award, which is voted by the team and given to the student-athlete who best represents the Louisville Cardinal spirit.
