Men's Golf Opens Play at the Columbus Regional

The Cardinals are making their 10th regional appearance in school history.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's golf team continues postseason action, when it competes at the NCAA Division I Columbus Regional Championship from Monday through Wednesday in Columbus, Ohio.
Louisville was selected as one of 13 programs to play at the NCAA Division I Men's Golf in Columbus Regional – one of six regional sites. The three-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by Ohio State, is taking place from May 14-16 at the Scarlet Course, which was recently renovated by Jack Nicklaus in 2006.
The Cardinals, who are making their fourth post-season appearance in the last five years and 10th overall, earned an at-large bid and the No. 9 seed in the region. Louisville faces a challenging field that includes five top-25 program in Golfstat's latest rankings: No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 12 Illinois, No. 13 Texas Tech, No. 24 UNLV, and No. 25 Wake Forest.
The Cardinals, who feature a lineup of Matthias Schmid, Nicolas Platret, Simon Zach, John Murphy and Devin Morely, will tee off Monday morning off hole No. 1 at 8:25 a.m.
Through 12 tournaments this year, the Cardinals secured two team titles and four additional top-five finishes. Most recently, Louisville is coming off an 11th-place finish at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship. A league-record 11 ACC schools earned NCAA Regional Championship bids.
Matthias Schmid, who ranks 15th in the ACC in stroke average, owns a 71.53 average in 12 events. He has two top-five finishes and one in the top 10 this year as a true freshman. He finished third at the Warrior Princeville Invitational with a remarkable 198.
Nicolas Platret has produced his best season thus far. The senior, who most recently finished in a tie for sixth at the ACC Championship, has one top-five showing, with a 71.78 stroke average. The Dracy LeFort, France, native has accumulated 19 rounds even or below par.
The top five teams and one individual (not on advancing teams) in each of the six regionals will advance and make up the 30-team field for the NCAA Championships, held from May 24-27 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.
