Men’s Golf Readies for ACC Championships

The Cardinals are the No. 8 seed at the championship.
LOUISVILLE, Ky.— The No. 47 University of Louisville men's golf team will play in the 65th annual Atlantic Coast Conference Championships April 20-22 at the Old North State Club in New London, N.C.
The Cardinals are the No. 8 seed at this year's event.
The Cardinals will get the championship underway on Friday at 9 a.m. with NC State and Virginia starting on hole 10. Florida State, Wake Forest and reigning champion
Duke on hole one. Boston College, Virginia Tech and Notre Dame begin at 10 a.m. on hole 10, while Clemson, Georgia Tech, and North Carolina go off at 10 a.m. from hole one.
Nine ACC teams enter the championship ranked in the Golfstat Top 50, with Georgia Tech leading the way at No. 5 followed by No. 15 Clemson, No. 17 North Carolina, No. 19 Florida State, No. 28 Wake Forest, No. 29 Duke, No. 35 NC State, No. 47 Louisville, and No. 48 Virginia.
Louisville's lineup includes freshman Matthias Schmid, juniors Keegan de Lange and Simon Zach, sophomore John Murphy and senior Nicolas Platret.
Schmid leads the team with a 71.45 stroke average and has posted a pair of top-five finishes. His best result came at the Warrior Princeville Invitational by carding an 18-over-par 198 to finish in a tie for third.
The native of Prague, Czech Republic, Zach owns the second-best stroke average at 71.96 and has posted the team's lone medalist honor, winning the Princeville Warrior by carding a school record 21-under-par.
Platret, who hails from Dracy LeFort, France, owns a 72.10 stroke average and recorded a top-five finish at the Louisville Cardinal Challenge.
Qualifying as an individual for regionals last season, de Lange is fourth on the squad at 72.24 and owns a season-best eighth-place finish at the Louisville Cardinal Challenge.
Entering their fourth championship, the Cardinals posted a sixth-place finish in 2016, their best result since joining the league in 2014. All-American Robin Sciot-Siegrist won back-to-back league titles in 2015 and 2016, becoming one of four players in league history to record such a feat.
The Old North State Club hosts the championship for the 21st time overall.
Wake Forest leads all schools with 18 league titles and 22 individual champions. Georgia Tech, which has won 14 outright ACC Championships and shared two more, has produced 11 medalists. North Carolina is third with 11 titles (10 outright), followed by Clemson with 10 (nine outright).
Live scoring will be available on golfstat.com, and the tournament will be carried live on ACC Network Extra beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday, with Mac McDonald and Brandon Turner on the call. There is no charge for admission for fans.
Georgia Tech is the favorite based on national ranking. The Yellow Jackets are fifth in the latest Golfstat poll and seventh according to Golfweek. Clemson is 15th by Golfstat and 16th by Golfweek. North Carolina and Florida State also have top 20 national rankings.
