March 09, 2018 | Swimming & Diving
Pinto and Price both final on Day 2.
University of Louisville diver Molly Fears punched her ticket to the 2018 NCAA Championships with a 4th place finish in the 3-meter board finals when she scored 599.20 in the finals at NCAA Zone C in Columbus.
Â
Teammate Brianna Price finished 17th in the 3 Meter in the same final with a score of 513.40.
Â
On the men's side. Daniel Pinto finished 12th in the 1 meter board finals with a 637.15 to finish 12th. Daniel Fecteau posted a 299.75 to finish 18th.
Â
To qualify for the NCAA Championship, divers must compete in one of five zone meets and the NCAA sets the number of qualifiers in each zone based on performances at the previous NCAAs. Â D 10 The Cardinals compete in Zone C. The women are allowed eight in 1-meter, 10 in three-meter and 10 in platform. The Zone C men are granted ten 1-meter, ten 3-meter and 11 platform spots.
The winner of each event (1-meter, 3-meter, platform) qualifies. If a diver wins two events, they will still only take up one slot which means the NCAA will keep adding divers until the zone meet reimbursement quota is met. If the diver earns eligibility in one event, they can automatically compete in any of the other two events at NCAAs as long as they finished in the top 12 in their zone in that event.
