Wynn named ACC Player of the Week, teams with Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff as the Doubles Team of the Week
The University of Louisville swept the ACC Men's Tennis weekly awards with Parker Wynn earning Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors and teaming with Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff as the Doubles Team of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday.
This marks Louisville's first-ever ACC Doubles Team of the Week and the second Player of the Week selection for the Cardinals this season with Morin-Kougoucheff earning the honor on Feb. 13.
Wynn helped the Cardinals defeat Virginia 6-1 in their ACC opener. The sophomore upset the Cavaliers' 18th-ranked Aswin Lizen 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot in singles. With the victory, he is now tied for the team lead with a 19-5 overall singles record and a perfect 9-0 mark in dual matches. Wynn is No. 90 in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles rankings.
Wynn also teamed with junior Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff, then-No 18 in the ITA doubles rankings, to help the Cards secure the first point of the match with a win at the No. 1 position. Wynn and Morin-Kougoucheff defeated Gianni Ross and Aswin Lizen 7-5 to clinch the doubles point for the Cardinals.
The pair has won five straight matches to improve its overall record to a team-best 20-8 and 8-3 in dual matches at No. 1.
Louisville (9-3, 1-0 ACC) will continue ACC play on March 10 with a match at No. 19 Notre Dame.
"I am pleased with the ACC Committee's selection of Parker Wynn as its singles player of the week and Parker and Chris Kougoucheff being named the doubles team of the week," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Parker has been playing better every week since the beginning of the team season. He gets so pumped up for the team competition has been working hard perfecting his technique. His serve motion is smoother and footwork is more efficient. He is undefeated this season so far. Chris and Parker have their rhythm back that they had in the fall with two great showings at the All-Americans and National Fall Championships. They ended last semester as a contender for the national doubles title and look like they are playing at that level again."
