
Track and Field Finished with Three Wins at the Black and Gold Invitational

Freshmen Shine at Black & Gold Invitational
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Louisville Track and Field teams wrapped up day two of the Black & Gold Invitational at Vanderbilt with three wins and eleven top five performances. Freshmen Gabriela Leon, Emmanuel Cheboson, and Donald McClinton, Jr. led the Cards with wins in the women's long jump, men's 3,000 meter run, and men's 100 meter dash.

Leon's winning leap of 5.98m/19'7 ½" bettered her performance at the Baldy Castillo Invitational last weekend for an outdoor season best.

Kelsey Heyward added to the women's success with a second place finish in the 100 meter hurdles. Heyward clocked a personal best time of 14.18 while teammate Gianna Gaul finished second in the women's discus with a personal best throw of 41.56m/136'4".

Senior Jade Hawkins cleared 3.70m/12'1 ½" in the women's pole vault to earn a third place finish.
Â
Sydney Hill and Asiah Smith both finished fourth in the 100 meter hurdles and 400 meter dash, respectively. Hill ran a time of 14.22 while Smith crossed the finish line with a time of 56.63.

Rounding out the women's side, Abigail Wright and Sharnae Alston recorded fifth place finishes and personal best times. Wright finished the 2,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 7:12.19 while Alston clocked a time of 12.01 in the 100 meter dash.

On the men's side, McClinton won the 100 meter dash with a personal record time of 10.54 while Cheboson took first in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:37.88 for a personal best.

Freshman Ben Ewert rounded out the pack with a fourth place finish in the men's 2,000 meter steeplechase. His time of 6:03.34 was good enough for a personal record.

The Cards will split up the action next weekend with the Texas Relays March 28-31, Raleigh Relays March 30-31, and San Diego Collegiate Open on March 31.
