Day One Results

Hankenson and Delgado lead the Cardinals after the first day of multi competition

AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Louisville heptathletes and decathletes opened day one of competition at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with strong performances on Wednesday. After the first day of events Joe Delgado sits in fifth place in the decathlon while Holly Hankenson sits in 11th in the heptathlon.

Hankenson and teammate Linda Mutter started the day with the 100 meter hurdles. Hankenson finished 20th with a time of 14.67 while Mutter finished 24th with a time of 15.33. Hankenson then took 15th in the high jump with a leap of 1.60m/5'3" while Mutter cleared 1.57m/5'1 ¾" for 20th.

In the shot put, Mutter led the duo with an eighth place toss of 11.74m/38'6 ½" while Hankenson threw 11.69m/38'4 ¾" for 11th. To cap off the day Hankenson finished seventh in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.08 while Mutter ran 27.06 for 23rd.

On the men's side, Delgado and Eric Fox started the day with the 100 meter dash. Delgado finished ninth with a time of 11.00 while Fox finished 16th with a time of 11.38. In the long jump, Delgado took fifth with a leap of 7.09m/23'3 ¼" while Fox jumped 6.67m/21'10 ¾".

Delgado recorded a personal best throw of 13.91m/45'7 ¾" for third place in the shot put while Fox finished eighth with a toss of 12.94/42'5 ½". In the high jump, Fox cleared 1.98m/6'6" while Delgado finished 11th with a leap of 1.92m/6'3 ½". The duo wrapped up day one with the 400 meter dash. Delgado finished third with a personal best time of 48.62 while Fox finished 14th with a time of 52.63.

On day two, the heptathletes will compete in the long jump, javelin, and 800 meter run while the decathletes will finish with the 110 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500 meter run.
