Delgado Leads Track and Field With A School Record Performance at Texas Relays

Delgado finishes fifth while Hankenson finishes sixth in the multi-events
AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Louisville heptathletes and decathletes wrapped up competition at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with strong finishes on Thursday. Joe Delgado led the men with a fifth place finish while Holly Hankenson led the women with a sixth place finish.
"The multi group had a solid showing to kick off the Texas Relays for our team," said assistant coach Brooke Rasnick. "Joe Delgado had two great days in the decathlon with five individual PRs and an overall PR score. He has built off his impressive indoor season and rolled it right into outdoors. We're excited to see how this group keeps progressing as we head toward ACCs and the NCAA Championships."
Delgado set a new school record in the decathlon with 7,655 points. He passed teammate Eric Fox's record of 7,233 set last year at the Texas Relays. Delgado wrapped up the day winning the 1500m with a time of 4:23.26. He finished seventh in the 100m hurdles with a personal best time of 14.85. He also finished with a personal best in the pole vault, finishing eighth with a mark of 4.60m/15-1. He also finished eighth in the discus and 11th in the javelin.
Eric Fox finished the day 10th in the decathlon with 7,141 points. Fox won the pole vault with a mark of 4.90m/16-0 ¾ . He finished with a personal best time of 15.27 in the 110m hurdles, finishing 14th. He also had a personal best in the javelin throw with a toss of 55.14m/180-11 for sixth place.
On the women's side, Hankenson finished sixth in her first heptathlon of the season with 5,220 points. She finished second in the 800m with a time of 2:13.16. She finished with a personal best of 32.55m/106-9 in the javelin for 13th place.
Linda Mutter finished 20th in the heptathlon with 4,757 points. She finished ninth in the javelin throw with a toss of 35.00m/114-10. She finished 15th in the 800m with a time of 2:28.97.
Martice Moore competed in the men's 400m hurdles, finishing 18th overall. He finished fifth in his heat with a time of 51.78. There were 12 heats competing and 83 runners in the event.
