Track and Field Travels to the Black and Gold Invitational This Weekend

Louisville looks to build off strong performances from the season opener
LOUISVILLE, KY. -- The University of Louisville track and field team will compete in the Black and Gold Invitational Friday and Saturday, March 23-24, at the Vanderbilt Track and Field Complex. The Cardinals will be one of 15 teams competing in the event.
The meet opens Friday with field events beginning at 4 p.m. and a limited schedule of track events from 5-8 p.m. On Saturday, field events begin at 10 a.m., with activities on the track starting at noon. The Commodores are debuting the new the Mondo surface recently installed at the facility.Â
Last weekend at the Baldy Castillo Invitational, the Cardinals finished with three wins and nine top three finishes. Jerin Allen, John Kolb and Dorcas Wasike began the outdoor season with wins.Â
On the men's side, two Cardinals finished with performances ranked top-10 nationally last weekend. Allen's high jump mark of 2.11m/6' 11" ranks him seventh in the nation. Sophomore John Kolb's throw of 56.98m/186' 11" in the discus ranks him fourth nationally.
On the women's side, two Cardinals recorded top-20 performances to start the outdoor season.  Carsen Cassell's hammer throw of 60.44m/198'3" ranks seventh in the nation. Freshman Gabriela Leon ranks 18th in the pole vault with a mark of 3.85m/12' 7.5".Â
Admission is $5 per day. Parking is available in the 25th Avenue Garage (off Highland Avenue) and surface lots across Natchez Trace from the track complex.Â
