Men's Tennis Will Host Boston College and Detroit Mercy Sunday

Cards face Boston College at 10 a.m., Detroit Mercy at 5 p.m.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Looking to bounce back after dropping a close match to No. 19 Notre Dame, the University of Louisville men's tennis team returns to the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on Sunday, March 18 for a doubleheader against Boston College and Detroit Mercy. The Cards face off against the Eagles at 10 a.m., followed by the Titans at 5 p.m.

"We have been putting in a lot of work this spring break," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "These guys are really committed in having a good month of March. They want to win as much as I do and are willing to pay the price. We are looking forward to the doubleheader on Sunday."

Against Notre Dame, the Cardinals (9-4) gained the initial advantage after capturing the doubles point. The 22nd-ranked duo of Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn downed No. 55 Brendon Kempin and Tristan McCormick 6-3 at the No. 1 spot, while Federico Gomez and Brandon Lancaster defeated Richard Ciamarra and Matt Gamble 7-6 on court two. Despite the loss to the Fighting Irish, Morin-Kougoucheff and Gomez also picked up wins for the Cards in singles.

Morin-Kougoucheff and Wynn lead the Cards with an overall record of 21-8 in doubles. They have compiled an 9-3 record in dual match play and are 3-1 against nationally ranked competitors. Federico Gomez and Brandon Lancaster are undefeated at No. 2 doubles with four wins.

Wynn received the nod at No. 90 in the most recent ITA rankings, holding a singles record of 9-1 through 13 dual matches. Federico Gomez has also registered nine wins with a 2-1 record at No. 3 and 7-2 record at No. 4.

Last Meeting: Feb. 19, 2017 – Louisville won 6-1 at Boston College. Â
Scouting the Eagles: Boston College (5-5) was defeated 6-1 by UNLV on the road in their last outing. Gereon Heitmann captured the sole win of the day for the Eagles, defeating his opponent from the No. 2 position 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (8). The Eagles have picked up wins against Fordham, St. Francis Brooklyn, Southern New Hampshire, Boston University, and Bentley University. Prior to Sunday's matchup with the Cardinals, Boston College will play Virginia on Friday.

Louisville vs. Detroit Mercy:
Series Record: First meeting
Scouting the Titans: Last time out, the Titans (7-6) were blanked 4-0 by Lipscomb. Prior to the loss, Detroit Mercy won two straight matches against Austin Peay and Tennessee State. In doubles, Nathan Ponton and Luka Soskic lead the team with a 3-1 record at No. 1. Gvidas Motuzas leads the Tigers with nine singles wins, going undefeated from No. 4 and No. 5 and 5-2 from No. 6. In the first position, Artem Vasheshnikov holds a record of 5-3 in dual match action. Before meeting the Cards, the Titans will play Xavier on Saturday.
