Cardinal women tied for third while the men finished seventh
CLEMSON, S.C. -- The University of Louisville track and field teams finished the ACC Indoor Championships with a tie for third place on the women's side and a seventh place finish for the men. Senior Emmonnie Henderson was named Women's ACC Indoor Field MVP for the second year in a row.
"It was great to see our women step up big this weekend and earn the program's top indoor finish at third overall," said head coach Dale Cowper. "Congratulations to Florida State as they put together an outstanding day and picked up the team title."
The women's third place finish is the highest ACC finish since joining the league in 2014.
Henderson scored big points for the women with another trip to the podium on day three. Her winning toss of 18.14m/59'6 ¼" blew out her own school record by 0.64m. The throw currently ranks second in the nation.
"Emmonnie Henderson was able to pick up her fifth overall ACC shot put event title and once again earned field athlete of the meet," said Cowper.
Dorcas Wasike added to her ACC success with a second team All-ACC performance in the women's 3,000. Her time of 9:20.62 was good enough for fourth place.
"Dorcas came up big again for us in the 3,000 with All-ACC second team honors and five big points," said Cowper.
Senior Eric Fox and sophomore Christian Buckley led the men's side with second team All-ACC performances. Fox grabbed fourth place in the pole vault clearing 5.10m/16'8 ¾" for a season best while Buckley finished sixth in the shot put with a toss of 17.11m/56'1 ¾".
"On the men's side Eric Fox and Christian Buckley came through with All-ACC second team honors in the pole vault and shot put respectively," said Cowper. "Eric was just shy of his best ever vault the day after finishing the heptathlon. To see him at his best today just shows how focused and dedicated his training has been this year."
Carlos Coleman rounded out the men's performances in the 400 meter dash with an eighth place time of 47.92.
"We'll have four to seven students advance to the NCAA Indoor Championships in College Station next month," said Cowper. "We have a strong chance to extend our string of women's top 25 finishes in March."
The Cardinals will head to College Station, Texas for the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 9-10.
