Branson Lancaster and David Mizrahi register wins for Louisville
The University of Louisville men's tennis team picked up two wins on day one of the Lakewood Ranch Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic Friday.
"This may be the best field of players in this tournament in the four years we've played here," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "We played high seeded players in four of our first six matches. Even though we only won two matches today, there were other bright spots. Freshman Juan Paredes narrowly lost to the tournament's overall No. 2 seed in three sets."
In doubles action, the Cards dropped a pair of matches to seeded teams from Florida and Michigan. Freshmen Juan Paredes and David Mizrahi fell 6-3 to Florida's second-seeded Lukas Grelf and Brian Berdusco. Seniors Brandon Lancaster and George Hedley lost a 6-3 decision to Michigan's fourth-seeded duo of Gabe Tishman and Steven Forman.
In singles action, Lancaster lost his first match to Tishman, but picked up an 8-3 win over Florida State's Bryn Nahrung in the consolation draw. Mizrahi also fell in his first matchup, dropping a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Notre Dame's Axel Nefve, but came to register an 8-4 win over Florida State's Chase Wood in the consolation draw.
Paredes split sets with the overall No. 2 seed Noe Khlif from Illinois, but eventually fell 6-4, 4-6, 10-1. He went on to lose 8-4 to Florida State's Enzo Le Seguilon. Hedley lost 6-0, 6-3 to the No. 5 seed, Michigan's Steve Forman and was edged 9-7 by Florida's Brian Berdusco.
