Cardinals Sweep Wake Forest
November 11, 2018 | Women's Volleyball
Amanda Green and Jasmine Bennett each had 11 kills
Amanda Green and Jasmine Bennett each had 11 kills to lead the University of Louisville to a 25-16, 25-18, 25-20 sweep of Wake Forest Sunday afternoon in Winston-Salem.
Â
The Cards hit .280 with three aces and 45 digs. Freshman Claire Chaussee joined in with double digits in kills with 10. Setter Wilma Rivera had four kills, 33 assists, eight digs and two blocks. Molly Sauer had 11 assists and 17 digs. Wake Forest hit .084 with two aces and eight blocks. The Deacons were paced by Caroline Kuhn's 9 kills.
The Cards ran out to a 5-1 lead in the first set which prompted the first WFU timeout. The Deacons recovered and got within one point at 13-12 on a kill by Caitlyn Della. The Cardinals pushed back and ran the lead back up to five at 17-12 and Wake used its final timeout. A 3-0 Wake run was ended by freshman outside hitter, Claire Chaussee, to go up 18-15 and the Deacons would score just once more as the Cardinals took the 25-16 win.
Â
In the second set, UofL lead 11-5 early and the Deacons could not close that deficit. Wake burned both timeouts early and could only watch as the Cardinals pulled away to the 25-18 win. Amanda Green again supplied the offensive firepower with five kills. Marijke Van Dyke had a pair of blocks to spearhead the defense.Â
Â
In the third set, UofL lead 12-7 early but Wake Forest managed to scramble back to within three at 20-17 on a kill by WF's Paige Sebesta. UofL called timeout and managed to hold off the Deacons, who put together a 4-1 run at late. A kill by Piper Roe gave the Cards set and match point.
Â
The Cardinals return to action on Nov. 16 when they travel to South Bend to face Notre Dame at 7 p.m.
