
Murphy Posts Career-Best Finish to Pace Cardinals in Final Fall Tournament

John Murphy shoots a career best 201 to place second.
A late charge by the University of Louisville men's golf team fell short, as the Cardinals closed the fall season with a third-place finish at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational on Tuesday.

Entering the day in a tie for fifth, the Cardinals collectively produced the best round of the day to finish just three shots off the lead. The Cardinals shot a 16-under-par 272 to close behind Pepperdine, the tournament winner, and Missouri. UofL finished at 25-under-par, shooting 286-281-272=839.

After shooting 65 on Monday to move into fifth, John Murphy put together another round for the ages, carding nine birdies for the round. The junior finished second overall, shooting 71-65-65=201 --- closing just three shots off the lead.

The Kinsdale, Ireland, native finished strong on the final nine holes, birding the first three holes of the round and the final two to post his career-best performance.

Matthias Schmid gave the Cardinals their second top-10 finish, by carding a final round 69. He tied for sixth after shooting 68-70-69=207.

Devin Morley tied for 17thas an individual, firing 69-71-70=210, while Jiri Zuska tied for 24thafter his final round of 68. He shot 74-70-68=212.

Simon Zach and Trevor Johnson rounded out the top-5 by shooting 220.

The Cardinals finished the fall with one victory, two second-place finishes and the third Tuesday in Hawaii. Â
