October 24, 2018 | Cross Country
Women's 6K begins at 10 a.m., followed by men's 8K at 11 a.m.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's and women's cross country teams head to Boston for Friday's ACC Cross Country Championships at historic Franklin Park. This is the second time that Boston College has hosted the event, with the previous meet occurring in 2010.
Friday's meet will open with the women's 6K championship at 10 a.m., followed by the men's 8K championship at 11 a.m. Both races will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and the ESPN app, with Dean Linke calling the action alongside analyst Miles Krieger. Live results will be posted on Flash Results.
With 15 institutions represented, the ACC Championship provides a tough test for the Cardinals. The men's race feature three nationally-ranked squads: No. 10 Syracuse, No. 14 Virginia and No. 15 Notre Dame, as well as nine regionally-ranked teams, including Louisville at No. 6 in the Southeast region. In the women's race, there are five nationally-ranked teams: No. 12 NC State, No. 18 Notre Dame, No. 22 Georgia Tech, No. 25 Syracuse and No. 29 Florida State. In the Southeast rankings, Louisville comes in at No. 15.
Following the races, the conference will award championship trophies to the top teams in the men's and women's fields, as well as medallions for the top three individual finishers. Additionally, the top 21 finishers in each race will be recognized as All-ACC performers.
In the opening race, junior Dorcas Wasike looks to continue her tremendous season by topping her runner-up finish at last year's ACC Championships, where she set a personal-best time of 19:54.1. Wasike has established herself as one of the nation's top runners, taking three victories and placing third overall at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals. She was named ACC Performer of Week for all four performances this season. In last year's race, the Cards took second place in the 6K behind NC State.
On the men's side, freshman Emmanuel Cheboson's strong rookie campaign has helped the Cards bounce back from last season's 15th-place finish. Cheboson has won two races, as well as a runner-up finish and 17th-place mark at Pre-Nationals. He has been named ACC Freshman of the Week three times and earned ACC Performer of the Week honors following his victory at the Louisville Cross Country Classic. The Cards' resurgence has also been bolstered by senior Chandler Austin and sophomore Albert Kosgei, who have provided consistent top-three outings.
After the ACC Championships, Louisville will turn their attention to the NCAA Southeast Regionals on Friday, Nov. 9 at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. The 2018 season will conclude with the NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 10 in Madison, Wisc.
