No. 10 Cardinals Collide with Clemson for Senior Night on Saturday

Kickoff set for 7 p.m., ET at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium; Senior ceremony to begin at 6:50 p.m.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -Â The No. 10 Louisville men's soccer team will play its final regular season home match of 2018 as ACC foe Clemson arrives at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium for a 7 p.m., ET kickoff on Saturday. The match will be will be televised on ACC Network Extra, while live stats will be available at GoCards.com. Prior to the match, the Cardinals will honor seniors Geoffrey Dee, Tate Schmitt, Adam Wilson and Watterson Young during a pregame ceremony.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Ranked 10th in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25, Louisville enters Saturday's match with a 7-3-3 record after Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Lipscomb. The Cardinals are second in the ACC Atlantic and third overall in the league with 11 points and a 3-1-2 mark. The top four teams in the conference will earn a first round bye and a second round home game in the ACC Championship.Â
Cherif Dieye, Tate Schmitt and Adam Wilson lead the Cardinals with four goals each this season, while Schmitt also has a team-high five assists. Geoffrey Dee has three goals and five other players have one goal each. Sophomore goalkeeper Jake Gelnovatch has started nine of 13 matches this season registering three shutouts overall and a 1.03 goals against average.
The Cardinals produced another successful season in 2017 reaching the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championship for the fifth time in the last eight seasons, including the second straight year, and earning a No. 7 ranking in the final United Soccer Coaches Top 25. Louisville had a 13-2-5 record and was second in the ACC Atlantic with a 5-2-1 league mark.
ABOUT THE TIGERS
Clemson is 5-7-1 overall following a 1-0 loss to Coastal Carolina on Tuesday and 0-5-0 in the ACC after a 4-1 loss to Virginia last Friday. The Tigers have lost three straight matches and five of their last six overall. Last season, Clemson was 12-6-1 overall and 4-4-0 in the ACC before ending its season with a loss to Coastal Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Championship.

Louisville trails 1-3-1 in the all-time series with Clemson, which dates to 2014. The Cardinals earned their first win in the series last year with a 2-1 road win in the regular season finale for both teams. Louisville moved up one spot to No. 10 in this week's United Soccer Coach Top 25 after landing 11th last week. Last week marked the first time this season the Cardinals had landed outside the top 10 in the poll. Louisville was at No. 6 in the preseason poll and dropped as low as No. 9 on Sept. 11 before rising to No. 7 and then No. 6 in the following weeks.Â
This week, the ACC has eight teams in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25: No. 1 Wake Forest, No. 5 North Carolina, No. 6 Virginia, No. 10 Louisville, No. 14 Duke, No. 16 Notre Dame, No. 21 NC State and No. 24 Syracuse. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. Click here to vote for Schmitt.
A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Schmitt has 25 career goals, including 10 game-winners, and 14 total assists in 74 collegiate matches. This season, the two-time All-ACC Academic Team member leads the team with his four goals and five assists while starting all 13 matches for the 10th-ranked Cardinals. Last season, he was an All-ACC Second Team honoree and was a United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Third Team selection after tallying a team-leading nine goals to go with three assists.
The finalists were chosen by a selection committee from the list of 30 men's candidates and 30 women's candidates announced in September. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through November 18, 2018. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner.
