BUFFALO, NEW YORK – The Western New York Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse held its annual selection meeting and announced that University of Louisville women's lacrosse head coach Scott Teeter is one of 12 to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.Â
Teeter is in his first season as head coach at Louisville after serving as head coach at Canisius for the past 16 years. Upon his arrival in Buffalo, he took the reins of a team that had won just 11 games in the program's first seven seasons. Under his guidance, he changed the culture of the program and was named MAAC Coach of the Year in just his third season after leading the Griffs to an eight-win improvement in 2005.
In 2011, Canisius won a school-record 14 games and capped the successful campaign with the program's first MAAC Tournament title. The Griffs added postseason championships in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017. In the run from 2011-14, the team became the first school in MAAC history to win four straight conference titles. Canisius also claimed regular-season crowns in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017 after sweeping through conference foes without a loss.
He was named the league's coach of the year again in 2015, 2016 and 2017, after becoming the first three teams in MAAC history to post a perfect 8-0 regular-season record.
Teeter departed Canisius as the winningest coach in MAAC history.
The annual selection meeting was held inside the Canisius College Koessler Athletic Complex in Buffalo, New York and capped a year-round selection process. The newly elected Hall of Famers were chosen from a list of 24 finalists who had been determined earlier by the Western New York Lacrosse Selection Committee.
The Class of 2018 will be introduced for the first time as a group and formally enshrined into the Western New York Lacrosse Hall of Fame on Saturday, January 13th. The Enshrinement Ceremony will be held in the Marriott Buffalo Harborcenter Ball Room with the reception starting at 4:00 p.m. and dinner to follow soon after. The event will conclude with a recognition moment during the evening's Buffalo Bandits home game versus the Vancouver Stealth at the Key Bank Center.
"It's a real privilege and honor to be a part of the Hall of Fame selection committee and welcome the twelve newest members to the Western New York Lacrosse Hall of Fame family," said Ed Greenway, President of the Western New York Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse. "This is a unique Hall of Fame class with 12 different categories represented spanning decades of competitive excellence. We're very excited to celebrate this great milestone with our WNY Lacrosse inductees and their family and friends."
