
Track and Field Set to Compete at the Illini Classic on Saturday

Cardinals return to action against Illinois, Illinois State and Eastern Illinois

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville track and field team will travel to Champaign this weekend to compete in the Illini Classic. The Cardinals will be challenged by three talented teams on Saturday, host Illinois, Illinois State and Eastern Illinois will all compete at the UI Armory. The meet begins at 10 a.m. with field events, while running events are scheduled for an approximate start time of 12 p.m.
The Cardinals return to action after winning five events at the Notre Dame Invitational on Saturday, including four on the women's side to propel the Cardinal women to a first place finish. Â The men recorded a win in the long jump to finish fourth on the day. Â Overall, the Cardinals finished with 17 top three finishes. Â Â
Emmonnie Henderson has won two consecutive events in the shot put to lead the Louisville women. She has two top 25 marks on the year, tied for 10th in the shot put with a throw of 55'0.75" (16.78m) and 25th in the weight throw with a toss of 63'11.75" (19.50m). Sophomore Alexis Gibbons adds another top-25 performance for the Cardinals women in the long jump, coming off a 19'11.5" (6.08m) mark last weekend that ranks 21st in the nation.Â
Jerin Allen and Javen Reeves lead the men with top 25 marks in the high jump this season. Both Allen and Reeves are tied for eighth in the nation with marks of 7'2.5" (2.20m). Freshman Donald McClinton, Jr. sits just outside the top 25 in the long jump. His latest mark of 24'8.25" (7.52m) ranks 27th in the nation.
