Allison Whitfield scored two goals to lead the Cardinals
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Cardinals bounced back from their Saturday night loss with a 4-0 win over Gardner-Webb Thursday evening at Lynn Stadium. Louisville native, Allison Whitfield led the Cardinals with two goals in the first half. Louisville improves to 6-2 on the season, while the Bulldogs drop to 1-7.
Â
"First of all, it was a great way to close out the non-conference portion of the schedule," said head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes. Â "We really did a good job focusing defensively on moments to re-press, and moments to drop it and get our shape, and I thought we did a much better job of that. Offensively, we did a good job of just trying to connect forward simply. Overall, we got a lot of players in off the bench that were able to take some minutes from those who were getting a lot of minutes, and it was great team effort. I really liked what we did offensively and defensively. "
Â
The opening minutes of the match were quiet for both sides, with each looking to find their opportunity to get on the board first. The Cardinals were ultimately successful, scoring 16 minutes in.
