Morin-Kougoucheff and Wynn ranked in singles and doubles
The University of Louisville's Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn are ranked in both singles and doubles as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2017-18 preseason rankings.
Morin-Kougoucheff opens his junior season with a career-best ranking of No. 74 in singles while Wynn makes his debut in the ITA singles rankings at No. 90. As a doubles team, the pair appears at No. 29.
"I feel the ranking committee acknowledged the success of last season as we got back in the national rankings and advanced in the NCAA Tournament," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "I am glad to see Chris and Parker in the national rankings.
Morin-Kougoucheff (Capbreton, France) completed the 2016-17 season with a 22-17 overall singles record and posted 11 wins as Louisville's No. 1 player. The team co-captain was nationally-ranked in singles three times, reaching as high as No. 114. The 2017 All-ACC second team selection also added 16 doubles victories to his sophomore resume
Wynn, a sophomore from North Richland Hills, Texas led the Cardinals with a 42-10 overall singles record, setting a school record for a freshman and tying Louisville's list for singles wins in a season. The 2017 All-ACC second team selection went 26-4 in dual matches playing mostly at Nos. 2 and 3. His dual match tally included a 9-3 record vs. ACC opponents and two wins over nationally-ranked opponents. He teamed with 2017 senior Sean Donohue to earn a bid to the 2017 NCAA doubles championship. The duo of Wynn and Donohue appeared in the 2016-17 ITA doubles rankings nine times, reaching as high as No. 23.
"The last time that we had two players ranked was Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and Albert Wagner in 2015," said Ecarma. "Chris and Parker's doubles national rankings at No. 29 is the highest since Simon Childs and Alejandro Calligari were No. 14 in 2011. Lastly, with Nicolas Rouanet's good start, I would not be surprised if he gets ranked in the next ranking."
