Field Hockey Concludes the Preseason with 2017 Alumnae Game

Cards welcome alums spanning six decades to Trager Stadium
The University of Louisville field hockey team celebrated its past and prepared for the upcoming season with the annual Alumnae Game Saturday at Trager Stadium. Â
Â
Thirty-eight alums spanning the last six decades helped the Cardinals in their final preseason tune up. Following the matchup, the current Cardinals were introduced to some of the players who helped build the foundation of the program.
Â
"What a great showing from our alumni," said UofL head coach Justine Sowry. "They gave us great competition, although probably wavered a bit late in the game, but there was plenty of depth. It's so important to connect the past with the future, and to have so many come back today was wonderful. We just really appreciate their support."
Â
Senior Marigrace Ragsdale scored three goals and sophomore Whena Munn added a pair of goals to pace the current Cardinals offensively. Senior Abby Grimes, junior Taylor Stone, sophomores Minout Mink and Sydnie Swartwood and freshman Madison Walsh and Annie Mulford also scored in the 11-0 win. Â
Â
The Cardinals will open the 2017 season on Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. when they play host to Indiana in the 'Battle of the Border.' Defending national champion Delaware will visit Trager Stadium for a 12 p.m. matchup.
