
Three Cardinals Set to Begin Play in the 2017 FIL Women's Lacrosse World Cup

McNamara, Morissette and Kopecka will represent their countries in the World Cup starting on Thursday
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The 2017 FIL Women's Lacrosse World Cup will be held at Surrey Sports Park July 12- 22. Louisville's Stephanie McNamara, Kaylin Morissette and Anna Kopecka will represent their respective teams.
Twenty Five nations will compete for the title of World Lacrosse Champions. Pools of teams will be scheduled to play each other over the opening days of the event.
All three Cardinal players will see their first action on Thursday, July 13 as McNamara and Morissette will face each other on opposite sides, when Canada and Australia play. Kopecka and the Czech Republic will face China.Â
McNamara and Morissette are in Pool A along with the United States. Kopecka is playing in Pool C.

During the knockout stages, nations who performed well in the pool stages will progress to stay in the tournament during the quarter finals. All teams will play a final game to be awarded a final world position. This finishing position will be used to seed the nation for the World Cup in 2021.
The opening ceremony is on Wednesday 12th July, with host nation England taking on Wales in the opening game directly after the ceremony. Pool stages will be played until Tuesday, July 18. Knock out stages will culminate with the Final of the 2017 FIL Rathbones Women's Lacrosse World Cup on July 22.
McNamara was a four year defensive starter for the Cardinals. She finished this season ranked third in the ACC in caused turnovers. She led the Cardinals' defense, holding nine opponents to single digit scoring, including four top 20 teams. McNamara also led the team in ground balls and caused turnovers.
Morissette wrapped up her senior campaign last year as the all-time draw controls leader with 572 and ranked second in the nation in draw controls with 8.56 per game. The first team All-ACC selection led the Cardinals in her final season with 56 points, scoring 37 goals and adding 19 assists. She also scored seven hat tricks and scored two game-winning goals last season for the Cardinals.
Kopecka spent three seasons with the Cardinals after transferring from George Mason. She scored seven goals and added two assists for nine points her junior year. After missing the start of her senior year with an injury, Kopeck finished with two goals and dished out four assists for six points.  Â
