Men's Tennis in Final Ohio Valley Region Rankings
June 16, 2017 | Men's Tennis
Donohue and Wynn ranked first in doubles, Cards second in regional team rankings
The University of Louisville men's tennis team finished the season at No. 2 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Ohio Valley Rankings while duo of Sean Donohue and Parker Wynn finished first among the region's doubles teams in the final 2017 rankings released on June 7. Sophomore Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Wynn stood at No. 13 and 16 respectively in singles.
"I am very proud to be ranked No. 2 in the Ohio Valley Region," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "This region represents teams in the ACC, SEC, Big 10, AAC and others so it is a formidable region of over two dozen teams. My players and I put a lot of work after the 2016 season and set our goals high and this is another reward for us. I am also proud of Sean and Parker to be ranked No. 1. That is definitely a huge honor and shows how special they were. Lastly, Chris and Parker being ranked among the top 16 in singles of over 200 players is impressive as well. This almost guarantees that they will both be nationally ranked in the preseason."
The Cardinals wrapped up the 2017 season with a 22-10 overall record and reached the regional finals of the NCAA tournament while making their NCAA appearance in program history. Louisville finished the season at No. 34 in the ITA national team rankings.
Senior Donohue and freshman Parker Wynn capped an impressive 2017 campaign with a 25-8 overall record and a 19-7 mark as the Cardinals' No. 1 team. They appeared in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings eight times, reaching as high as No. 22 and became the seventh NCAA doubles selection in program history.
Morin-Kougoucheff (Capbreton, France) finished his sophomore season with a 22-17 overall singles record and posted 11 wins as Louisville's No. 1 player. He tallied five singles wins against ACC opponents including three against nationally-ranked players. The team co-captain was nationally-ranked in singles three times, reaching as high as No. 114.
In addition to his doubles accomplishments, Wynn (North Richland Hills, Texas) posted an impressive freshman campaign, leading the Cardinals with a 41-10 overall singles record, setting a school record for a freshman and placing him second on Louisville's list for singles wins in a season. Additionally, he went 25-4 in dual matches playing mostly at Nos. 2 and 3. His dual match tally included a 9-3 record vs. ACC opponents and two wins over nationally-ranked opponents.
