Kibichiy adds another award to his final season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville's Edwin Kibichiy was one of three NCAA champions and one silver medalist headlining the Atlantic Coast Conference's major award recipients for the 2017 Outdoor Track and Field season. The accolades, announced Friday afternoon, were determined by a vote of the league's head coaches.
Kibichiy, who took the gold medal in the 3,000 meters steeplechase, earned the nod as the conference Men's Track Performer of the Year. Virginia's Filip Mihaljevic earned ACC Men's Field Performer of the Year honors for the second consecutive season after taking gold medals in both the shot put and the discus at last week's NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
NCAA javelin gold medalist Irena Sediva of Virginia Tech was voted the ACC Women's Field Performer of the Year while 400 silver medalist Shakima Wimbley of Miami was selected the top Women's Outdoor Track Performer for the second straight year.
