Morin-Kougoucheff selected to second team, Wynn named to third team
The University of Louisville's Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn earned All-ACC honors as announced on Thursday. Morin-Kougoucheff was named to the second team while Wynn was third team selection.
Morin-Kougoucheff, a sophomore from Capbreton, France, compiled a 22-16 overall singles record and posted 11 wins as Louisville's No. 1 player. He tallied five singles wins against ACC opponents including three against nationally-ranked players. The team co-captain was nationally-ranked in singles three times, reaching as high as No. 114.
"I am very happy for Chris to receive this honor," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "I felt that he was close in getting it last year but wasn't completely healthy during the seasonm so to receive the honor this year and named to the second team as well is gratifying to see. Chris has improved his cover coverage and net game so much. He is a great player to coach and is one of best captains that we have had on this team - and he is only a sophomore."
Wynn, a freshman from North Richland Hills, Texas, led the Cardinals with a 40-10 overall singles record, setting a school record for a freshman and placing him second on Louisville's list for singles wins in a season. Additionally, he went 24-4 in dual matches playing mostly at Nos. 2 and 3. His dual match tally included a 9-3 record vs. ACC opponents and two wins over nationally-ranked opponents.
Wynn also posted a 27-9 overall doubles record and went 18-7 in dual matches while teaming with senior Sean Donohue at No. 1. Wynn and Donohue have appeared in the national doubles rankings for the last seven ranking periods reaching as high as No. 22 and currently stand at No. 31. The duo has a 6-1 record vs. nationally-ranked opponents.
"Parker just keeps on getting better," said Ecarma. "He is a sponge as far as taking coaching and a very hard worker. He brings a very stable emotional level every day to practice and is mature beyond his years. As a freshman, he has performed well in many pressure-filled moments and has been one of our most clutch players on the team. He truly has been an impact type of recruit and has a very bright future ahead of him."
The 43rd-ranked Cardinals (21-9) earned an at-large bid to the 2017 NCAA tournament and will face No. 30 UCF in the first round on Friday, May 12 in Columbus, Ohio.
