Koloski, Read and Siverson all earn All-ACC honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The University of Louisville has three selections on the 2017 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Team, as voted upon by the league's head coaches and announced on Wednesday. Senior Hannah Koloski and junior Brittany Read earned first team honors while sophomore Meghan Siverson was named to the second team.
"I couldn't be prouder of this team and what they have accomplished so far by working together," said head coach Kellie Young. "We have made a huge effort to focus on team and have avoided giving too much attention to individual honors. Having said that, I recognize what a huge honor it is to be recognized as one of the top players in the best conference in division I women's lacrosse."
For the season, Koloski leads the way for the Cardinals with 60 points on the season, scoring 58 goals, leading the ACC in that category. Koloski also leads the nation in free position goals per game with 1.53, is second in shots on goal per game with 6.00 and fourth in shots per game at 7.94 and goals scored at 58. Koloski owns the school for career free position shots with 56.
"Hannah, Brittany and Meghan have been such significant parts of our success," said Young. "Hannah has faced the top defenders from every team game after game. She has battled face guards and double teams while still finding a way to score."
Read ranks fourth in the nation with 10.06 saves per game, sixth in save percentage stopping 51.7 percent of the shots she faces, seventh in saves with 171, and 21st in the nation with a 9.43 goals-against average. She also leads the ACC in saves, save percentage and saves per game. She owns the school record with 300 career saves and an 8.47 career goals against average.
"Brittany has matured tremendously in the last 12 months, becoming one of the best keepers in the nation," stated Young. "Her consistency and steadiness has grounded our defense while her love of the game has become contagious to everyone around her."
Sophomore Meghan Siverson has 59 points on the season from 51 goals and eight assists. Siverson is fifth in shots on goal per game with 5.82, ninth in shots per game at 7.59, 11th in free position goals per game at 1.06, and 17th in goals scored with 51. Siverson ranks fourth in the ACC in draw controls and 25th in the nation.
"Just a sophomore, Meghan stepped into some pretty big shoes when she took on the role of our center," Young said. "She has found her own stride and made this position hers. I am so proud of the player she is while seeing even more potential for the player she will become over the next two years."
The Tar Heels (13-2, 6-1 ACC) will play No. 8 seed Duke (8-8, 1-6 ACC) in the first game of the tournament on Thursday at 11 a.m. Other quarterfinal matchups include No. 4 Notre Dame (11-6, 4-3 ACC) taking on No. 5 Boston College (12-5, 3-4 ACC) at 2 p.m., No. 2 seed Syracuse (13-5, 5-2 ACC) playing No. 7 seed Virginia Tech (11-7, 2-5 ACC) at 5 p.m., and No. 3 Virginia (10-7, 4-3 ACC) against No. 6 Louisville (11-6, 3-4 ACC) at 8 p.m.
