
Track and Field Hosts Louisville Invitational This Weekend

Cardinals will host the first of two meets this weekend

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's and women's track teams will host the Louisville Invitational this weekend.
The men's and women's hammer throw will be the only event held on Friday. The women's hammer will leadoff at 2:30 p.m. and will be followed by the men's hammer at 4:00 p.m.
Saturday's events will start at 10:00 a.m. with the men's javelin, followed by the women's javelin at 11:00 a.m. The running events will begin at noon with the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase followed by the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
The women's field will include one ranked team in No. 23 Purdue. Both fields boast Indiana, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Pittsburgh, as well.
Last Week: The men's and women's teams traveled to Tuscaloosa, Ala. and brought home one win, one school record, and 17 top five finishes.
Junior Oliver Newport took first in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.40m/24-03.50. Senior Emmonnie Henderson set a new school record in the women's shot put as she finished second with a throw of 17.50m/57-05.00.
The Cardinals had multiple top five finishers in the women's 400-meter hurdles, the women's long jump, the women's javelin, and the men's high jump.
Last Year: The women's team took first with 200.50 points, while the men's team placed third behind Purdue and Indiana. Louisville took 10 individuals wins, 26 top three finishers, and a new school record.
Emmonnie Henderson led the way taking home two wins each. Henderson won the women's shot put with a throw of 16.93m/55-06.50 and the women's discus with a mark of 53.04m/174-00.
The Cardinals multiple finishers in the top three in the women's 100 meters, men's 5,000 meters, women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, and women's javelin.
