Nine Track and Field Athletes Will Compete in the Texas Relays This Week

Cardinals will send nine athletes to compete in the four day event

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Nine athletes from the University of Louisville men's and women's track teams will travel to Austin, Texas this week to compete at the Texas Relays.
Sophomore Holly Hankenson will begin the competition with the women's heptathlon at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Junior Eric Fox will follow with the men's decathlon at noon. Fox will wrap up his events at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, while Hankenson will finish at noon.
Sophomore Raven Grant will run the women's 100 meters Friday morning at 10:35 a.m. Senior Bre'Yana Wash and freshman Alexis Gibbons will compete in the women's long jump on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Jerin Allen, Carlos Coleman, Martice Moore and Teague Peck will compete on Saturday with heats beginning at 4:05 p.m. to wrap up the meet.
The 90th running of the meet will be the largest in its history with more than 7,700 athletes accepted into the meet. Nearly 800 high school teams will journey to Austin for the meet and just under 200 college teams will face off in what is expected to be another one of the top meets in the country this year.
Last Week: Grant took first at the UT Rust Buster in Knoxville, Tenn. in the women's 100-meter dash with a time of 11.64 seconds. Gibbons and Wash dominated the women's long jump finishing first and second with jumps of 6.18m/20-03.50 and 6.16m/20-02.50, respectively.
Hankenson had a strong showing in the women's 100-meter hurdles finishing fourth with a mark of 14.21. She also placed ninth in the women's 200 meters at 24.83. Fox competed in multiple events finishing 11th in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.64m/21-09.50 and 23rd in the men's 100 meters with a time of 11.49.
