
Men's Swimming Sets Three School Records at NCAAs Day 2

Cards earn All America Honors
The University of Louisville men's swimming team set three school records and earned All American honors at the second day of the 2017 Men's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday night at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis.
 Texas took the lead in team scores with 225.5, followed by  California (143) Florida (138.5),  NC State (123), Indiana (121), Stanford (105), Southern California  (75) Georgia (73), Missouri (71.5)   and Auburn 69.5 The Cardinals moved into 11th place with 57 points.

"Whenever you have a day where three school records were broken it is a great day, said Arthur Albiero, UofL head coach." It shows the level of performances our guys are producing at this meet. The NCAA meet is about being in position to seize scoring opportunities. We will have fun tomorrow. The records were Grigory Tarasevich setting the 100 back in the lead off of the 400 medley relay and the 200 free relay."
In the 200-free relay, the Cards went one one-hundreth of a second slower than this morning to finish fifth in the B Final and 13th overall. Andrej Barna (19.53), Trevor Carroll (19.11), Grigory Tarasevich (19.29) and Josh  Quallen (19.29) combined for the 1:17.23.

In the 500-free,  Texas' Clark Smith led the race wire to wire, resetting Peter Vanderkaay's NCAA and American Records with a 4:08.42.

Florida's Mark Szaranek and Texas' Will Licon tied for gold in 1:40.67 in the 200 IM.

Florida's Caeleb Dressel won the 50 free for the third straight year, touching in 18.23 to tie for the 2nd fastest performance of all time with his relay leadoff split.

The Cards set school record with a 3:03.96 in the 400 medley to finish fifth and earn All America honors. Grigory Tarasevich set a school record in the leadoff backstroke leg with a 44.97, followed by Carlos Claverie (51.54), Josh Quallen (45.18) and Trevor Carroll anchored with a 42.27.

200 Freestyle Relay: A new pool record was set by Texas with a time of 1:14.59.
500 Freestyle: Clark Smith from Texas took home a pool, NCAA, Championship, U.S. Open and American record with a winning time of 4:08.42.
200 Individual Medley: There was a tie for first with a time of 1:40.67 between Florida's Mark Szaranek and Will Lincon from Texas.
50 Freestyle: A pool record was set by Florida's Caeleb Dressel with a time of 18.23.
1-Meter Diving: Steele Johnson took the victory for Purdue with 446.90 points.
400 Medley Relay: An American record by Cal was set with a time of 3:01.51 (second place) while Texas finished first with a pool, NCAA, Championship and U.S. Open record with a time of 2:59.22.
