GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Six University of Louisville men's basketball players have been named to the annual All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men's Basketball team, as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford.
Earning the honor for the Cardinals are Deng Adel, Tony Hicks, V.J. King, Anas Mahmoud, Quentin Snider and Raymond Spalding. The six selections for Louisville was a league-high on the 27-member team. Pittsburgh placed three on the squad while seven schools had two selections each. Louisville placed seven members on the team each of the past two seasons in the ACC.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career. It was the third straight year that Snider has been honored on the team and the second time that Adel and Spalding have earned the recognition.
Miami senior Davon Reed received the 2017 Skip Prosser Award, presented annually to the top scholar-athlete in ACC men's basketball. It is named in memory of Wake Forest head basketball coach George Edward "Skip" Prosser, who passed away on July 26, 2007. Prosser compiled a 291-146 career record in 14 seasons as a head coach, including a 126-68 mark in his six years with Wake Forest. Every Wake Forest senior he coached graduated, and the Deacons placed nine players on the annual All-ACC Academic Basketball Team during his tenure.
The seventh-ranked Cardinals (23-6, 11-5 ACC) have had a successful year both on the court and academically. In the 2016 fall semester, 11 of 15 men's basketball student-athletes achieved a 3.0 or better grade point average and the Cardinals posted a collective 3.18 GPA.
