Cards wrap up Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic with a 4-2 win over Cal State Fullerton
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – The University of Louisville softball team defeated Cal State Fullerton 4-2 in their Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic finale Saturday evening.

The Titans (7-7) jumped to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Emily Randall walked and stole second and came around to score on Delynn Rippy's two-out RBI hit.

Louisville answered in the home half of the inning. Juniors Nicole Pufahl and Jamie Soles delivered back-to-back two-out hits and wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position. Junior Jenna Jordan walked to load the bases for sophomore Jordan Vorbrink who reached on an error to plate Pufahl.

Fullerton pulled back ahead in the third when a Louisville miscue allowed Trisha Parks to reach. Pinch-runner Brooke Clemetson took second on an illegal pitch, stole third and came home on Shianna Brannan's RBI hit to make the score 2-1.

The Cards capitalized on three runs and two errors to put up three runs in the fifth. With one out in the inning, Vorbrink and McNary registered back-to-back singles. An error on freshman Ciatlin Ferguson's grounder plated pinch-runner senior Morgan Meyer and McNary. Senior Maryssa Becker's flyout to centerfield sent Ferguson home to give Louisville a 4-2 lead.

Megan Hensley (2-2) picked up the win, giving up two unearned runs on six hits and striking out six in five innings. Becker registered her first save of the season after holding the Titans scoreless on three hits and striking out three in two innings of relief. McNary went 1-for-2 with a run.

Sydney Golden (0-3) took the loss, surrendering three unearned runs on four hits and striking out one in 4.1 innings. Irieanna Siofele paced Fullerton offensively with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate.
