February 24, 2017 | Track & Field
Women keep the lead while the men stand at second after the second day of competition
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – After a second day of competition at the ACC Indoor Championships, the Louisville women stayed atop the standings with 43.5 points after seven events were scored. The Louisville men are in second with 37 points with six events scored. Senior Damar Robinson defended his high jump title to give the Cardinals a second event title.
"Both squads continued to build upon the momentum established on Thursday," said head coach Dale Cowper. "We saw several season bests and even some new school records today. I couldn't be more pleased with the way each squad is competing through day two."
The day began with the Cardinals sweeping the men's high jump competition. Robinson won the title for the second straight year with a jump of 2.21m/7-3. The mark was just shy of his personal best. Javen Reeves finished second with an indoor personal best jump of 2.18m/7-1 ¾. Jerin Allen gave Louisville the sweep, finishing third with a personal best mark of 2.18m/7-1 ¾.
Eric Fox also earned points for the Cardinal men with a third place finish in the men's heptathlon. He earned first team All-ACC honors with 5,409 total points. "Eric Fox fought through the heptathlon to set a new school record and earn first team All-ACC accolades with his third place finish," said Cowper. "He'll do his best to recover from the grueling two day competition and get ready for the open pole vault tomorrow."
