Louisville women finish fifth while the men finish 18th on Friday
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The University of Louisville women's cross country team finished fifth at the NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday afternoon at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville. Following the women's race, the Louisville men finished the 10K race with an 18th place finish.
"Our front four women had an outstanding day with Dorcas leading the way as the fourth place individual," said head coach Dale Cowper. "She ran a strong race from start to finish and continues to represent herself as someone that has the potential to earn All-American honors next week at Tom Sawyer Park."
Sophomore Dorcas Wasike led the women with a fourth place finish. She finished with a time of 20:22.3, earning all-region honors. Senior Bailey Davis finished 21st with a time of 21:01.7, earning all-region honors as well.
Senior Mia Ross finished 25th with a time of 21:07.7 to earn all-region honors. Junior Kassidy Manning just missed earning all-region honors with a time of 21:08.3 for a 26th place finish.
"Bailey Davis and Mia Ross were able to finish inside the Top 25 giving us three all-region selections while Kassidy Manning narrowly missed all region honors at 26th," said Cowper. "We'll wait and see how things shake out with the team at-large selections tomorrow, but it looks like the women's squad will narrowly miss out on advancing to the NCAA finals."
Aurilla Wilson was the next finisher for the Cardinals with a time of 22:29.9 to finish 96th. Caroline Gosser finished right behind her with a time of 22:30.5. Abigail Wright finished with a time of 22:35.2 at 107th .
The Cardinal men were led by junior Daniel Fleace with a time of 30:57.2 to finish 68th. Fleace finished with a new personal best in the 10K race. Redshirt freshman Albert Kosgei finished 81st with a time of 31:14.5.
"The men were able to improve upon our ACC finish two weeks ago and I'm sure we will be able to learn from today's 10k effort as the group moves forward," Cowper said.
