Cardinals fall on the road in the regular season finale
RALEIGH, N.C. – The University of Louisville women's soccer team fell 2-1 to NC State in the regular season finale Thursday night at Dail Stadium. The Wolfpack improves to 13-4-1 (6-3-1 ACC), while the Cardinals fall to 9-7-2 (3-5-2 ACC) on the season.
With strong defensive performances by both squads, the teams remained scoreless after the first half. Senior Kaela Dickerman had the only shot on goal of the period in the 20th minute by NC State's Syndey Wootten made the save.
Much like the first half, both teams were strong on the defensive end. In the 67th minute the Wolfpack's Tziarra King broke through with a shot from seven yards out for the goal.
Junior Gabrielle Vincent scored the equalizer in the 80th minute on a loose ball from 20 yards out. Two minutes later King scored her second goal of the match from 10 yards out.
The Cardinals applied offensive pressure in the final nine minutes, looking for the equalizer. Alison Price had two shots on goal that were saved by Wootten. Then Brooklynn Rivers had a shot saved in the final minutes.
Louisville finished with a 12-8 shot advantage and a 1-0 advantage in corner kicks. Wootten finished with six saves.
A win would have secured the spot for the Cardinals in the ACC Tournament. Boston College claimed the eight post with a double overtime win over Pittsburgh tonight. Only eight of the 14 teams advance to the ACC Championship.
