
Men’s Golf Cruises to Team Victory at Louisville Cardinal Challenge

Seven of the nine Louisville golfers finished the tournament with a top 11 finish.
SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's golf team matched three beautiful days of weather with three beautiful days of golf as they cruised past 12 teams to claim victory at the Louisville Cardinal Challenge at the UofL Golf Club.
The Cardinals led the majority of way as they finished the tournament at 9-under after shooting 286-286-283. They finished 11 strokes ahead of second place Miami (OH) and were the lone team to shoot under par.
Erik Dulik, who competed as an individual, nearly recorded the individual victory, but finished two strokes behind Patrick Flavin of Miami (OH), who won the tournament at 9-under. Dulik finished at 7-under after shooting under par in all three rounds, opening with a 4-under 68 and then closing with rounds of 70 and 71.
Simon Zach, Nicolas Platret, Keegan de Lange and Trevor Johnson all finished in the top 11 to help lead the Cardinals to a team victory. Zach led the way at 6-under (68-71-71—210) and finished in third place overall. Platret finished in fourth place at 4-under (75-67-70—212), while de Lange finished tied for eighth at 1-over (73-74-70—217) and Johnson finished tied for 11th at 3-over (73-74-72—219).
Matthias Schmid shot 8-over (72-79-73—224) and finished tied for 34th to close out the team effort.
"What an excellent effort. We received quality contributions by each player throughout the tournament," said head coach Mark Crabtree. "Eric, Simon and Nicolas all finished in the top five, which is impressive. It's exciting to see so much improvement being made."
Hugh O'Hare and John Murphy, who both competed as individuals, marked the sixth and seventh Louisville golfers to finish in the top 11. O'Hare shot even-par (73-70-73—216) and finished tied for sixth, while Murphy shot 3-over (74-72-73—219) and finished tied for 11th.
Devin Morley, who had a hole-in-one on the 12th hole during the final round, shot 6-over (79-73-70—222) and finished tied for 23rd.
Overall, seven of nine Louisville golfers finished the tournament in the top 11 and all nine players finished in the top 34. The field consisted of 79 players.
Next up, the Cardinals travel to Johnson City, Tenn. to compete in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate Oct. 13-15.
