Morissette makes the final 18-player roster
LOUISVILLE, KY. – Former Louisville Standout Kaylin Morissette was named to the 18-player roster that will represent Canada at this summer's 2017 FIL Women's Lacrosse World Cup in Guildford, England.
The athletes on the 25-player national training squad were evaluated by the team's coaching staff during a training camp in Syracuse, New York this past weekend, after which the final selections were made.
"What an incredible honor to represent your country," said head coach Kellie Young. "Kay continues to shine as one of the best centers in the world. I am so proud of her and look forward to following her success with Team Canada!"
Morissette wrapped up her senior campaign last season as the all-time draw controls leader with 572 and ranked second in the nation in draw controls with 8.56 per game. The first team All-ACC selection led the Cardinals last year with 56 points, scoring 37 goals and adding 19 assists. She also led the team in ground balls with 36 on the year. Morissette scored seven hat tricks last season and scored two game-winning goals for the Cardinals.
This roster announcement brings an end to a lengthy team selection process that began in late 2015 and saw an initial pool of 127 applicants from across the country narrowed down after tryouts in August, at the University of Syracuse, and October, at the Team USA Fall Classic in Baltimore, Maryland.
These world-class athletes, many of whom are no strangers to playing on the international stage, will look to guide Canada to its first ever world cup gold medal. The final roster is comprised of seven members of the silver medal winning 2013 world cup team, as well as six familiar faces from Canada's historic gold medal performance at the 2015 FIL U19 Women's Field Lacrosse World Championship.
