Cards named 2016 ITA All-Academic Team, four players named ITA Scholar-Athletes
The University of Louisville men's tennis team has earned the 2016 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team Award, while four players on the 2015-16 squad have been named ITA Scholar Athletes.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is given to a team that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above. All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for both semesters of the academic year.
In addition to the overall team recognition, four players were named ITA Scholar Athletes. Senior Alex Gornet completed his career by earning the honor for the fourth straight time. He was joined by teammates Sean Donohue, Courtney Lock and Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letter winner with a GPA of at least 3.5.
"I am really proud of our team," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "The sport of tennis has a long, competitive season from September to May with only the month of December off. They have a full schedule as well as a lot of travel. For the team to do this well academically is a statement that they have bought into our success picture which is to achieve on the court, classroom and relationships. We want to be champions on the court, scholars in the classroom and have very good interpersonal skills. These guys make us look good."
