Gornet Named to All-ACC Academic Team

Alex Gornet earns the honor for the second straight season
The University of Louisville's Alex Gornet has been named to the All-ACC Academic Team, as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford. This marks the second straight season Gornet has earned the league's academic honor.
Gornet, a 2016 senior and team co-captain posted a 21 singles win and 16 double victories while playing at No. 1 in both for the Cardinals and earning All-ACC third team honors. He was ranked as high as 108 in singles and No. 35 in doubles. Gornet finished his career ranked 10th on UofL's list for career singles wins (96).
He was equally successful in the classroom, College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 2 At-Large team in 2014 and 2015. The three-time ITA Scholar Athlete also earned academic honors in the American Athletic Conference (2014) and the BIG EAST (2013). The Student-Athlete Advisory Council member was recently named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Ohio Valley Region's Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportmanship Award Winner and Most Improved Senior.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
"I am so happy for Alex for being our first two-time recipient of All-Academic designation in the ACC," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "These are some of the top student-athletes in America. Alex is a very diligent and organized person who manages his time well. His entire family is brilliant and with these type of habits the sky is the limit for his future."
