Darrius Lopez led the Cardinals with a second place finish in the hammer
West Lafayette, Ind. – The University of Louisville track and field team began the Rankin/Poehlein Invitational with three top three finishes in the hammer throw on Friday.
On the men's side, Darrius Lopez led the Cardinals with a second place finish. Lopez finished with a mark of 55.50m/182-1 to finish as runner-up behind Purdue's Chukwuebuka Enekwechi. Trevor Troutman finished third with a mark of 54.62m/179-2.
Caitlin Gilmore led the women with a third place finish. Gilmore finished with a throw of 56.36m/184-1. Dolly Nyemah finished with a season best throw of 56.28m/184-8 to finish fourth. Rachel Serafin finished sixth with a throw of 54.38m/178-5 while Cyerra Cassell finished 10th with a throw of 48.68m/159-8.
The Rankin/Poehlein invitational continues Saturday at 10:30 a.m. ET with the men's javelin. Running events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., 30 minutes after the senior recognition.
