
Gornet Named to CoSIDA All-Academic District First Team

Senior Alex Gornet earns the honor for the second time in his career
The University of Louisville's Alex was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 2 At-Large team as announced on May 12. He will be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
"I am so happy that Alex is receiving this honor again," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "He is the ultimate role model of a student-athlete and truly deserving of this award."
Gornet, a senior from Louisville, Ky., carried a 3.96 GPA while majoring in chemistry. This marks the second CoSIDA Academic All-District selection for Gornet who also earned the honor in 2014.
The 2016 team co-captain posted a 21 singles win and 16 double victories while playing at No. 1 in both for the Cardinals and earning All-ACC third team honors. He has been ranked as high as 108 in singles and No. 35 in doubles. Gornet finished his career ranked 10th on UofL's list for career singles wins (96).
His success on the court carried over to the classroom. The three-time ITA Scholar Athlete also earned was also a 2015 All-ACC Academic Team and honor roll selection and earned academic honors in the American Athletic Conference (2014) and the BIG EAST (2013). The Student-Athlete Advisory Council member was recently named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Ohio Valley Region's Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportmanship Award Winner and Most Improved Senior.
To be nominated for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00 and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution.
