April 08, 2016 | Women's Lacrosse
The sophomore keeper is one of three players added to the list
The Tewaaraton Foundation has announced sophomore goalkeeper Brittany Read as a second round of addition to the 2016 Tewaaraton Award Women's Watch List, presented by Under Armour. Read was just one of three players added to the list. The lists include the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse and highlight the early contenders for the Tewaaraton Award, which will be announced June 2 in Washington, D.C.
Â
"These players have truly earned this recognition by the selection committees through their hard work and commitment," noted Jeffrey Harvey, chairman of the Tewaaraton Foundation.
"Congratulations to these individuals and their teammates."
Â
Read joins teammate Kaylin Morissette on the watch list. Read has led the Cardinals in goal this season with a 12-1 record. She ranks third in the nation in save percentage with .541 and fifth in the nation in goals against average at 6.49. Read also ranks 14th in saves with 100 so far this season. She set a career-high with 13 saves in the Cardinals' 10-4 win over No. 10 Northwestern on March 3. Â
Â
The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the
United States. The selection committees are comprised of premier college coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.
Â
The first round of watch list additions was announced on March 9. On April 28, the field will be narrowed to 25 men's and 25 women's nominees. Nominees can be players on the watch lists or players not on the watch lists, effectively allowing for a third round of additions. The 2016 Tewaaraton Watch List of the top 100 players in college lacrosse was announced on Feb. 23.
Â
Five men's and five women's finalists will be announced on May 12 and invited to the ceremony. The 16th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held in Washington, D.C., on June 2.
