Cards take on No. 23 Florida State on Friday and No. 75 Miami on Sunday
The University of Louisville men's tennis team will travel to Florida for a pair of ACC matches this weekend. The Cardinals will take on No. 23 Florida State in Tallahassee on Friday at 5 p.m. and then travel to Miami to face the Hurricanes on Sunday at 12 p.m. which will be televised on ESPN3.
Â
"This will be a big challenge for us," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Florida State is doing very well nationally and Miami beat them. We will prepare very hard. We have some winning pieces. Doubles has been on fire for us and Brandon Lancaster is doing well in singles. Chris, Alex, and Christian also earned singles wins Sunday but we need a total team effort."
Â
About Louisville
The Cardinals enter the weekend with a 12-13 overall record (0-8 ACC). Louisville picked up a 4-3 win over Southern Illinois in its most recent contest. In that match, the Cardinals won the doubles point and got singles wins from senior Alex Gornet and freshmen Brandon Lancaster and Christian Haushammer. Prior to that, the Cards dropped a pair of hard-fought ACC matchups, falling 4-3 to NC State and 5-2 to Duke.
Â
Lancaster carries a team-best 21-10 overall singles record with an 8-7 mark in dual matches. Gornet follows at 20-17 with eight dual match wins. Senior Jeffrey Brown leads the team with eight dual match wins and has victories in four of his last five singles matches.
Â
Gornet and Brown recently rejoined the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's doubles rankings, standing at No. 81 nationally. The duo has tallied 12 wins while junior Sean Donohue and sophomore Courtney Lock has a team-best 14-6 doubles mark and is 12-4 playing mostly at No. 3.
Â
