
Lacrosse Faces Notre Dame in the ACC Tournament on Thursday

Cardinals play the Fighting Irish at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in the ACC Tournament
LOUISVILLE, KY. –The No. 8/9 Cardinals (12-4, 3-4 ACC) will face No. 6/6 Notre Dame (12-5, 4-3 ACC) in the first round of the ACC Tournament on Thursday night. The Cardinals drew the No. 6 seed and will face the No. 3 seeded Fighting Irish at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN3 at Lane Stadium on the campus of Virginia Tech.
For the season, Kaylin Morissette continues to lead the way for the Cardinals in scoring with 51 points, scoring 34 goals and adding 17 assists. Morissette is second in the nation with 143 draw controls, averaging 8.94 draws a game. Cortnee Daley is second on the team with 47 points (37 goals, 10 assists) while Kelli Gerding is third on the team with 45 points (23 goals and a team-high 22 assists). Hannah Koloski boasts a team-best 38 goals and adds two assists for 40 points.
Cortney Fortunato leads Notre Dame with 79 points and is sixth in the nation with 54 goals. Rachel Sexton is second on the team with 53 points (39 goals, 14 assists) while Casey Pearsall is third with 43 points (25 goals, 18 assists). Barbara Sullivan leads the team with 48 caused turnovers and leads the nation with 2.82 per game. Sullivan also leads the team with 40 ground balls and 54 draw controls.
Notre Dame leads the series 6-2 against the Cardinals. The Cardinals have won the last two meetings against the Fighting Irish. The previous seven meetings have been decided by three goals or less. In the last meeting between the two schools, Louisville picked up a thrilling 10-9 upset victory over Notre Dame at UofL Lacrosse Stadium. The Cardinals overcame a second-half deficit to force overtime with Kelli Gerding scoring the game-winner, her only goal of the game, nine seconds into the extra period. Hannah Koloski scored four goals while Cortnee Daley added three and Kaylin Morissette added two goals and three assists.
