Track and Field Picks Up Eight Wins at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational

Kelsey Cramsey and Codie Hamsely help lead the Cardinals to eight wins
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track and field teams wrapped up competition on Saturday with eight wins at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational at Cardinal Park.
"We were fortunate to be able to put together a great invitational on a gorgeous weekend," said head coach Dale Cowper. "A big thank you to the officials and countless volunteers that made this a great weekend of track and field on campus."
Codie Hamsley kicked off action on Saturday with a victory in the men's discus with a mark of 53.02m/173-11. Teammates Isaac Bowling and Trevor Troutman finished second and third, respectively. Bowling threw a mark of 52.79m/173-02 while Troutman's best throw was 49.89m/163-08.
The Cardinal distance runners swept the 1500m and 3000m events. Kelsey Cramsey won the 1500m with a season best time of 4:32.83 and teammate Lydia Mato finished third in 4:36.80. Edwin Kibichiy set a new meet record with his first-place finish time of 3:46.61 in the 1500m and Jonathan Reynolds took third with a time of 3:54.28.
Lydia Mato set a Cardinal Park record with a first place finish in 10:02.12 in the 3000m. Teammate Adair Gennocro finished second with a time of 10:06.24. The Cardinals led the field in the 3000m with Ernest Kibet setting Cardinal Park record with his time of 8:15.75. Japhet Kipkoech finished second in 8:17.07 and Calvin Chemoiywo took third in a time of 8:20.08.
Emmonnie Henderson also won the discus event to give the Cardinals a sweep in the discus events. Her mark of 52.69m/172-10 was just shy of her season best and gave her the second win of the season in the event.
Freshman Halee Hudson won the women's javelin throw with a throw of 38.43m/126-01. While teammate Emily Bryan finished second with a mark of 37.89m/124-04 in the event.
Through five events of the decathlon, Eric Fox leads the field with 3611 points after winning three events on the day. Fox led the field in both running events, winning the 100m and the 400m runs while also picking up the win in the shot put.
Through four events of the heptathlon, the Cardinals hold the three top spots. Mara Zielonka leads the field with 3179 points followed by Holly Hankenson in second with 3152 points and Linda Mutter in third with 2993 points.
To conclude Saturday's action, the women's 4x400 relay team of Sydney Hill, La'Bianca Frazier, Kayla Tyson, and Bre'Yana Wash finished first with a time of 3:48.12 while the men's 4x400 relay team of Andrew Nsuk, Carlos Coleman, Josh Hall, and Antoine Keys took second in 3:09.86, which was only a second off the school record time.
The Cardinals return to action on Sunday with the conclusion of multi-events at Cardinal Park. The men's decathlon will take place at 11:30 a.m. with the 110m hurdles followed by the discus, pole vault, javelin, and the 1500m run. The women's heptathlon will also conclude with the long jump, javelin, and the 800m run.
