Darrius Lopez Leads the Cardinals with a win in the Hammer Throw

Louisville finishes with five top three finishes in the hammer throw
LOUISVILLE, KY. – The University of Louisville track and field team kicked off the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational with a win in the men's hammer and five top three finishes in the hammer throw.
Darrius Lopez led the Cardinals with a win in the men's hammer. Lopez finished the day with a new personal best mark of 60.59m/198-09. Lopez led the field handily through his first three tosses. His fourth toss put the competition out of reach and set a new career mark for the junior.
Trevor Troutman finished second in the event with a throw of 57.78m/189-07. Nils Westrich gave the Cardinals a sweep of the men's hammer with a third place finish. Westrich finished with a mark of 57.50m/188-08.
Senior Caitlin Gilmore led the women with a second place finish in the hammer. Gilmore led the competition with her first throw of the day at 58.16m/190-10. Cincinnati's Annette Echikunwoke passed Gilmore with her in the final throw to take the win.
Freshman Cyerra Cassell threw a personal best mark of 57.00m/187-00 to finish third. Senior Rachel Serafin finished fourth for the Cardinals with a mark of 56.95m/186-10. Megan Brooks finished 10th with a personal best mark of 46.82m/153-07.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday at Cardinal Park for the second day of competition in the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational.
