CARY, N.C. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated Boston College 4-0 in the first round of the ACC Championship on Wednesday afternoon at Cary Tennis Park. The 12th-seeded Cards will face fifth-seeded Georgia Tech in the second round on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Â
"I am happy that we put it all together with a clutch doubles point and dominating singles," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "We lost a very close match to Georgia Tech during the regular season and hope that our overall improvement can make a difference tomorrow."
Â
Louisville (15-16) took the first point of the match with doubles wins on courts 1 and 3. Junior Sean Donohue and sophomore Courtney Lock teamed to give the Cards an early edge with a 6-3 win over Kent Mukai and Jeff Melvin at No. 3. On court two, Alexandre Thirouin and Aidan McNulty were leading senior Jeffrey Brown and freshman Christian Morin-Kougoucheff 5-4 when the doubles point was decided.
Â
"Alex and George were solid the entire doubles point and Sean and Courtney came back from an 0-3 deficit to win 6-3. They showed composure," said Ecarma.
Â
In singles action, Hedley quickly added to the lead when he defeated Kukai 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5. Morin-Kougoucheff followed with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Workman at the two-spot. The match was decided on court three where Brown registered a 6-0, 6-4 win against Melvin for the 4-0 final.
Â
